MY DEPARTURE TO AUSTRALIA

I made a checklist of everything I needed to be ready, one week before for the big day.

  • My first thought was to see for the last time the people I love the most. My family and my friends ( and my cats even if they are not people ). Spend time with them, have fun and keep only the good memories. I also take time to appreciated every place of my beautiful city that is Marseille.

  • My second priority was to make ready every document for my immigration to Australia (visa, health insurance, ID, passport, insurance for the phone, car, document for the bank, administration French document..) and to have more information I could get by looking some vlog on YouTube about the destination I chose: Brisbane.

And also send an email to my host family for thanks them to welcome me to their house and to have more information about the future house, the school, in which area I will be living.

Then I could prepare everything I needed for my trip.

  • The next step was to know what I could bring with me during this big vacation, without knowing about how many days, months, or years I would stay there.

So I prepared some outfits I was going to be sure to wear to be ready for a big Summer because of the weather in Australia.

But I also planned to take some sweatshirts and some hot clothes. I buy some stuff for my personal needs ( beauty stuff, medicaments, suitcase)

Then My suitcase was ready.

After everything was done I finally say goodbye to everyone, to my room, to my city.

THE BIG DAY

At 5:04 on Friday 20th September 2019, I was in an airplane, going far away from my country, France. For a big adventure. Alone.

I did 1 step to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates before arriving at Brisbane the next day.

And I finally arrived In Brisbane, at night. An employer from my school came to welcome me and bring me to my host family.

My host family welcomes me and the first thing we did is eat and speak in the living room all night. I was happy to meet my new family but nervous about not speaking English, I also have the opportunity to meet the other girls that were living in the house, they had the same age as me, but not from the same countries, Marwa was from Italy, Laura was the younger girl from Belgium, Cynthia a little bit older from Switzerland, and another girl really quiet from Japan. We were roommates for 3 months.

3 MONTHS IN EF SCHOOL

In EF SCHOOL, To be honest, I had more expectations about this school, looking at the video on website was giving me different dreams about it, but I guess each one has a different experience about this school. It’s doesn’t have only a bad side, but the main goal of learning English and getting a better level was not 100 % successful.

I did learn the basic, but the best experience I get from this school was to meet people that became my friends. I was staying with the girls of my house but I also met people from everywhere in the world and with different cultures. This was very beautiful experience even if there were a lot of French people in this school.

The school had a good localization that allows us to enjoy every place in the center: Good restaurants, public transportation was next to the school, there were shops at 20 minutes walking, the fake beach at 15 minutes. During these 3 months, I get the opportunity to enjoy everything around and go to school during the morning or In the afternoon.

The bad side was to live far from the center. First, because it was an important time of transportation ( 1 hour) for going to the center or the school and also really far from the nightlife area.

And more important it was ridiculously expensive.

40 dollars every week.

NEW HOME, THE NEW START

I meet Salvador at the beginning of my trip to Brisbane, that became my boyfriend. He was a student in Brisbane living in the center, literally in the best place of Brisbane. I was almost living with him. I had the idea before to live in the center of Brisbane after my 3 months of school ( and of my host family that was included in the pack).

So we decided to look for a shared place together for cheaper rent. We had a good opportunity that we took rapidly, and I moved a little bit before the end of my curse in school.

I was living on Wicked terrace, a residence with a cool condo/house. Living with roomies, we had one big room with a private bathroom paying for 360 AUS dollars by week. With a big terrace. Private pool in the residence, and there was a beautiful park in Roma street with a cinema outside and a movie every week and we could eat with the barbecue installed for everyone.

And in this moment started a new part of my adventure in Australia.
