Sayulita

First day

On the first day, we arrived in Sayulita with a car full of suitcases, we parked the car in a private parking for 50 pesos the day.

Before going to Sayulita, we looked for rooms on Facebook market to found a new place where to live. We had one contact, that we needed to visit the first day for one room with a private bathroom, and kitchen. The rent was 5600 pesos by month, the localization of studio was great but there were not windows Inside the space.

We needed to found more options to visit because what we saw in the pictures from Facebook was not looking the same at the real place.

We decided to walk all day and to ask everyone on the street if there was one room available for a couple.

We found two other contacts, that were not available on this day.

We decided to stop the research, enjoyed our first evening in Sayulita. We stopped on the principal beach to watch the sunset.

PUNTA MITA

In the evening, we took the car and went to the house of Salvador's uncle.

To another town, next to Sayulita called Punta Mita. Twenty minutes driving between the two towns.

Punta de Mita is located on the northern end of Bahia de Banderas (Banderas Bay), just 11 miles (17.5km) west of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico.

The next morning

We took breakfast at the Restaurant called: "El Coral", a place I recommend you to go to for the dishes and "el Jugo de Verde" (green juice), which is not expensive and also with a view of the beach.

Marisas Island

At the entrance to the restaurants, you will be stopping by locals that will propose to you if you are interested to go on a trip to Marisa's Island. The pack included snorkeling, a tour on a boat, and a visit to the "Isla del Amor."

The Marieta Islands are a group of small uninhabited islands a few miles off the coast of the state of Nayarit, Mexico, located in federal waters approximately 7.9 kilometers southwest of the peninsula known as Punta de Mita, in the municipality of Bahía de Banderas.

The trip is about 1000-1200 pesos by a person for 2 or 3 hours. Bring your GoPro, or waterproof phone case, sunscreen, and water.

The activity is about visiting two beautiful islands. You can choose to enter The famous "love beach" (Playa del Amor), also called the "hidden beach" (Playa Escondida) in the islands.

The beach is a popular tourist destination. This spot can be dangerous, I recommend you to ask the person that proposes this activity if is a safe day to go there.
Because you will need to cross under the rock to arrive to the other side and some days the waves are too strong and can be extremely dangerous to go.

This experience was amazing, I wanted to spend more time there but we needed to found a place where to live if we wanted to stay longer in this beautiful state.

Back to Sayulita

After the activity, we drove until Sayulita.

We visited the first places that we found the day before but it was not what we were expecting.

We asked some locals around if there were other rooms available in the center of the town, and one woman heard us and called us from her restaurant.

She proposed us a room just next to her restaurant, in the middle of the town. We visited, and this place was the perfect spot to stay.

At two minutes from the beach, next to a lot of restaurants, shops and around everything we needed.

If you are looking for a room to rent a week or the month, here is the adress: Calle El Zarquito.

You can ask the restaurant at the beginning of the street, they will contact the owner and will help you if there is any availability. There are different rooms with a private bathroom and kitchen.

New home

At the moment we were installed to our new place, we took a good shower and decided to celebrate our new home with a good restaurant called La Rustica.

One of the best of Sayulita's restaurants.

Divers dishes that the restaurant proposes to you and it's really delicious.

Living in Sayulita

We spend two months in Sayulita, lived there, worked there, and studying for Salvador.

We had Salvador's car, which was better to visit around Sayulita.

What to do in Sayulita ?

There are some places I would like to recommend in Sayulita, on my travel guide on my Instagram page :

Sayulita beaches

The principal activity in Sayulita is the beaches.

First one: Sayulita Beach
One of the biggest draws to the Sayulita scene is its main beach. Sayulita Beach is a super-long stretch of golden sand that is teeming with life.

This is the place where surfers flock, stand-up paddle boarders head for, babes in itsy-bitsy bikinis sunbathe, Mexican families set up their tents, tourists stop by to watch the show and beach vendors make their daily wage.

Here you’ll find a lively, colorful, crazy scene, at times awhirl with the music of wandering bands, but always loads of fun—especially when the waves get big and the town crew of renowned surfers paddles out and demonstrates how it’s done.

A hippie Bar that I recommend you to go to on the main beach, on the right side, called club de playa Cameron.

SAYULITA TURTLE CAMP: SEA TURTLE PRESERVATION

As environmental awareness grows in Sayulita, so does the wildlife. Campamento Tortuguero Sayulita is a voluntary community project. The goal of this Sayulita organization is to relocate the sea turtle nests, as well as educate locals and visitors how to protect them from poaching. A huge effort has been put into effect for programs to educate young, local children about the importance of sea turtle preservation and environmental compassion.

LOS MUERTOS BEACH

Named for the nearby cemetery, Playa de Los Muertos is the best swimming beach in Sayulita. located on the south of the main beach and just north of Punta Sayulita.

Protected by the peninsula to the south and rocky outcroppings to the south, this beach is one of the safest in the area. It’s the perfect destination for a leisurely swim or family outing.

The beach is accessible by foot or by car. To get there, head south along the main beach and turn left past Villa Amor. Continue past the cemetery and the beach is to the right.

the lesser-known beaches around Sayulita.

-CARRICITOS BEACH

Further south, on the other side of the peninsula, is Playa Carricitos, a beautiful, secluded beach less than an hour’s walk from downtown Sayulita.

-PATZCUARO AND PATZCUARITO

These two beaches are located some distance from Sayulita village. The beach is about a 10-minute drive or a half-hour walk from town on the road to Higuera Blanca. More adventurous types can try to reach it by climbing over the rocks from Playa Carricitos. The rustic beauty and privacy are well worth the effort.

-PLAYA ESCONDIDA

This beach is situated on a hidden cove south of Sayulita.

-PLAYA MALPASOS

This long stretch of beach is located just south of President’s Point, the rocky outcropping that separates it from the beach in San Pancho. This oft-deserted beach offers beautiful white sand and privacy. You won’t find any restaurants or beach vendors here, so make sure you bring plenty of food and water. The beach faces the open ocean, so beware of strong undertows. Swimming is not recommended. But, this beach is a lovely spot to hike and bask in the sun. If you’re looking for a place to get away from the crowds – this is it.

Our life in Sayulita

We enjoyed our best time in Sayulita, living next to the sea, in our little home, meeting new people, eating cake every day.

Because in Sayulita if you are a fan of good cake around the town you will found the best ones.

Christmas

It was the second Christmas spending in the summer.

We wanted to be close to Salvador's family for this event. So at the end of December, we took a flight to Mexico City. We have been spending Christmas and the New Year with everyone.

The city was still on lockdown at this time. We were staying at the house to save money, spending some time with the family.

African Safari, Puebla City

The only activity that was opened at this moment, was the African safari, in Puebla city.

We ate the traditional dishes called: Mole poblano at the restaurant called Kilimanjaro.

At this place, we could observe the monkeys in front of our table while we were eating. We could see the animals from the car, and we also booked to be able to feed the huge giraffes on a guided tour.

Back to Sayulita

In January, a few days after the new year, we came back to Sayulita.

We didn’t keep the first place, we had at the beginning. We slept at the house of our friends, then we booked for one week in a hostel cheaper than others, called Riad Lola Sayulita. Then one of our friends found a big house that we could rent with others people.

New home

We had the opportunity to be in a new house, but there was nothing inside.

It was old and all dirty. The first week, we cleaned everything, paint the house, and personalized our new home with some art.

We bought a bed, supplies, and stuff to be able to cook, we even created some furniture with wooden fruit boxes that we customized as a closet to put our food in « the kitchen » and clothes in the room.

We had a rooftop, the only spot to be connected to the wifi that we took from the hostel next to the house.

A terrace, with a view of a park. 2 minutes walking from the beach and the hippie market of Sayulita.

We spend two months more in Sayulita doing the same things, enjoying our bigger house, making parties, or just chilling with our friends German and Israel.

We also enjoyed more places around Sayulita:

San Pancho

San Francisco, or San Pancho as it is more commonly referred to, is a Mexican town situated in the State of Nayarit on the central Pacific coast of Mexico.

A place that I really enjoyed every time I went, by the vibes of the people, the beautiful sunset, the food, the view, the colors on the street, the nature, the kindness of the locals.

The place I recommend to eat if you love pizzas, called La Toscana in San Pancho.

Delicious and cheap, on Main Street, next to the beach.

El eden Mismaloya, Jalisco.
Address: Mismaloya, 48315 Puerto Vallarta, Jal.
Adventure park with natural swimming pools, jungle canopy zip lines, a restaurant & a river.

A spot of Paradise. You have many choices betweendifferent activities.

You can also eat and drink at the restaurants near to the water.

The water is really cold, so if you want to enjoy you should go on a sunny day.

The entry cost about 150 pesos.

The view is beautiful, a little bit complicated to go, so you should check well on google Maps before going there.

PLAYA LA LANCHA,PUNTA MITA

La Lancha's white sand beach, turquoise water, and secluded location make it the area's most unique surf destination. The waves are mellow, the water is warm, and the scenery is beautiful. So come and join the fun!

This is the most consistent break in Bahia de Banderas, with multiple peaks to suit all ability levels. The beach is only accessible via a narrow trail through a jungle reserve and so the beach is uncrowded and quiet.

The secret beach of Punta Mita. You will need to park your car to the gas station next to the OXXO.
Then to cross the road and eached by a 7-10 minute walk along a jungle trail from the Wildmex HQ.

On your walk into the jungle, you should be careful where you put your feet and be aware that you can meet some snake around you. After the jungle, you will found the beautiful beach of La Lancha.

Even if the place is a Paradise, a lot of animals live there, so I recommend you to be careful of the crocodile, snake, and shark.

I will not stay after the sunset if I was you.

Bucerias, Nayarit, mexico

Bucerías meaning "place of divers", is a small beach resort town in Nayarit on a stretch of Mexico's Pacific coast known as the Riviera Nayarit, on the Bay of Banderas, between La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and Nuevo Vallarta.

The first thing to enchant you will be the simple charms of this traditional Mexican town. You’ll fall in love with the cobblestone streets, brightly colored homes (with enormous wooden doors), and the overall feeling of tranquility.

It is common to see people bicycling down the streets of Bucerías towards the beach, or walking through the communal market to do some Nayarit shopping for items such as silver jewelry, handicrafts, clothing, and traditional sweets.

4 Months in Nayarit

We wanted to explore a maximum of things. We enjoyed living there for almost 4 months.

Unfortunately, the money I saved in Guadalajara, was not enough.

Sayulita is a little town with not a lot of opportunities if you don’t have a good level of Spanish.

I was looking for some babysitting, and designer jobs but that was not enough to pay the rent and food.

We were searching for the next destination to discover and with better jobs opportunities.

In December, we applied to go to Canada. I needed to make a new passport to be able to stay longer on the trip. And for this, I needed to go back to Mexico City, to make my new passport to a French consulate, and we also needed to give back the car to Salvador's family in Guadalajara.

Quintana Roo
Quintana Roo is a Mexican state on the Yucatán Peninsula. On its Caribbean coast, the town of Tulum offers seaside Mayan ruins, sandy beaches and undersea caverns. To the northeast, the resort city of Cancún is known for its nightlife, Nichupté Lagoon nature reserve and long beaches with coral reefs

Our idea was to go to the states of Quintana roo. Around Cancun, playa del carmen, and Tulum.

Guadalajara

We came left Sayulita and back to Guadalajara. Five hours driving.

(Budget gas: 800 pesos/ péage: 1000pesos) We gave back the car to the family and I took the bus to Mexico City the next morning.

Mexico city

I stayed in Mexico city doing my appointment for my new passport and I stayed 5 days at the house of Salvador's family.

I was spending my time to organized my new destination and booked my flight to Cancun.

We were not decided where to live exactly. We wanted to live close to the beach and to discover the beautiful nature of Quintana Roo, around Cancun, playa del carmen, and Tulum.

After five days of research, Playa del carmen was the cheapest city to live in and it was a bigger city to found better jobs opportunities.

CANCUN

At the beginning of March 2021, I was in Cancun to a new destination and adventure.

Thank you.
